G&K Equipment is a small, family-owned and operated business.
My father, and owner of G&K Equipment, Greg Quarrick, started this business nearly 35 years ago when he began fixing tire changers for local automotive shops. I still remember him dropping me and my brothers off at school in his newly-bought equipment delivery truck – which was really just an old, used Entenmanns bakery van that would fit a tire changer in the back. We had to hold on to the tire changer during the ride (there were no seats in the van) and jump out the back door when we got to school.
But that experience was better than riding in his work truck. An old, rusty, red GMC with what seemed like 2,000,000 miles on it, and a bungee strap hooked from the inside of the driver’s door, across the front seat, to the inside of the passenger door. That was to keep the passenger door closed. When we arrived at school, we had to unhook the bungee strap and jump out of the truck.
While most of my memories growing up with my dad were embarrassing for me at the time, I now look back with gratefulness and appreciation that I had such a determined, hard-working, and God-fearing man as my father who wasn’t concerned with outward appearance, but rather, putting food on the table at night for us. And our mom was just as equally hard-working as my dad, which inspired the work ethic that still runs through myself and older brothers today. When we weren’t in school, there was nothing else for my dad to do other than take us to these automotive shops with him. The smell of new tires is actually sentimental to me, since I spent so much of my childhood in tire shops with my dad.
Today, Greg is officially the expert on all things tire changers, wheel balancers, car lifts, and air compressors. He was contracted by global tire changer manufacturing giant – The Coats Company - to be their dedicated service technician in the Southwestern PA region and surrounding areas.
I now run the office for my dad; me and my 7-year-old daughter, Ruth, that is. When she’s not in school, she’s at our shop, learning how to work, just like we were raised.
If you know my dad, you know he possesses unmatched, vast knowledge of tire machine repair. I noticed so many people calling him just to ask for advice or help answering their machine questions, so I set up a YouTube channel for him, called Mr. Tire Changer. Surprisingly, he likes filming these videos! I think it’s because of his love for helping people and his opportunity to share his faith publicly. We’re proud to say we’ve helped people as far as Australia with their Coats tire changers problems.
Most recently, however, my older brother, Josh, joined forces with us and expanded G&K Equipment with a forklift division. In the same way that my father is the tire machine expert, I can confidently say that Josh is the forklift expert.
This truly is a family business. We love our customers, and we strive to maintain a consistent presence at our shop; meaning that when you call us, you’re probably calling either Greg, Josh, or myself. When you come to our shop to view inventory, you’ll also be meeting with Greg, Josh, or myself. We are proud to be a small business and look forward to meeting you.
Most importantly of all that we can offer though is our faith in God. Romans 6:23 says that the free gift of God is eternal life. Eventually the tire changers will be gone, the forklifts will be gone, and eternity will be here. God so loved the people in the world that He sent His Son, Christ Jesus, to live the perfect life we couldn’t live, and become the perfect sacrifice to God that we couldn’t offer, in order to make perfect atonement for God’s just wrath against sin. The free gift of God to us, is that He will exchange Jesus’ perfect righteousness with our sinful messes, and welcome us to Himself in Heaven for eternity. If we trust in the work of Jesus and confess that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved.
Thanks, again, for checking us out and trusting us with your business!
With love,
Erica
